Carmen worked her way up to Vice President and Relationship Manager for Mexican banks and was responsible for all of its border business. Carmen retired in 2010 and moved to Rosarito the following year. Carmen is bilingual and bicultural, and speaks both languages fluently. Sally Ann Jessie was born in Canada and raised in New Jersey by an American mother, having dual citizenship Canadian/US. She attended Lasell Junior College, then worked in Washington DC in a Management Training Program and in NYC as an interior decorator after attending New York School of Interior Design. She later finished college, receiving a B.A. in Psychology from Mills College in Oakland CA and Paralegal Certificate from St Mary's College in Orinda. After working as a Paralegal, she retired from the U. S. Treasury Department after 12 years of service and moved to Rosarito in 2013 after visiting for over 20 years. A little back story: “I grew up not being able to read as my school district in New Jersey experimented with Sight Reading, no phonics, and I was undiagnosed as having dyslexia. As a young child I spent many hours in the public library looking at picture books and I had a large collection of comic books. My school years were dismal, many summers spent in summer school for failed classes. That all changed when I went to Cushing Academy for my senior year, where I became part of a community and learned the importance of reading and studying. As an adult, I participated in training to become a Good Books Co-leader working with elementary children in Piedmont CA. After reviewing my own reading experience, I believe I could help bring to the organization an understanding of the importance of having the resources and the desire to read.
