CANDIDATE BIOS
Amy Chankin After graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in Interior Design, Amy took over a three state/eight studio design division of a large Atlanta-based corporation. As the youngest person and only woman and designer to ever lead this group, Amy turned the business' sales around in six months and led this division to become the most profitable of its kind. She then took charge of the Kitchen and Bath division for one of the largest distributors in the country, before forming her own consulting firm. Amy did international corporate training for 10 years before retiring with her husband to San Miguel de Allende. Moving to Rosarito for her husband's health, Amy became active in the theater community here(as she had in San Miguel), with lead roles in 23 productions, as well as directing and teaching acting classes. A longtime supporter of the Friends of the Library, Amy became the official spokesperson for the organization several years ago, generating thousands of dollars in contributions from her speaking assignments. Since being appointed to the board and its Vice Presidency, Amy has been active in fund raising and membership efforts, as well as continuing public speaking on FOL’s behalf.
Ann Hoffman received her BA from Coe College in Cedar Rapids IA and was supposed to be a history teacher. It didn’t turn out exactly that way. Her work has included lab tech, substitute teacher, executive secretary to “father of genetic engineering,” during which she wrote the first entry in World Book Encyclopedia on genetic engineering, moved on to travel agent and then became part of a duo who created a new section within the marketing department of a medical diagnostic to bring speakers to conferences pertinent to the company. Ultimately, she became a self-taught librarian for a start-up biotech company and went on the earn her Master of Library Science, starting two biotech libraries, managing two branches of the Denver Public Library and retired as a manager from Amgen Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. Ann visited Rosarito “only” for the month of November in 2012 and has never left. As a result, she wrote “The Happy Expat: Your Guide to Joyfully Retiring Abroad.” Since February 2017, Ann has been a volunteer with Friends of the Library, currently serving as one of the people who travels with the bookmobile to the communities it serves. And she will continue to do so, as “boots on the ground” is her passion.

Juliet Seti Salceda Born in Orange County California and raised in American Samoa. Lived in Hawaii and Utah before moving to Rosarito in 2018 to be closer to family. Served in the US Army, background in customer service and serving the community AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Utah. Licensed as pharmacy technician and life insurance agent; small business owner. Currently has a daughter in primary school in Rosarito and sees the value and importance of reading for children. A firm believer in the mission of Friends of the Library to create excitement for children to enjoy and learn to read. An avid reader for whom reading was a driving force to realize there is more to see and explore. Looks forward to learning from the board and helping where I can to encourage reading.
